CommuterMom: Worth a Thousand Words

We must take hundreds of pictures of CommuterGirl and our dog every month. For every good picture, we probably get five blurry ones. But, that’s what I love about the digital camera — you can take as many shots as you need to get it just right.

I dutifully download everything to the computer…and do nothing else. CommuterDad and I have family spread out all of the country, in fact the world, who are always eager to see new pictures. Sending them as attachments is very cumbersome; I’ve tried a couple of the photo sites, but none of them have thrilled me. And I haven’t found one that would allow us to share the video clips either.

How do you share your digital pictures and videos? Any advice on great photo sharing sites?

We use Picassa software. It's a free photo management software by Google. You just download it to your own laptop or PC. It makes it very easy to e-mail a bunch of photos at once to as many or as few people as you want. It also allows you to create slideshows with captions, etc. and then e-mail those or burn them to CD or DVD. I highly recommend it, even if you also choose to use a web-based site as well.

I use Kodak Photo Gallery. You can go to www.kodakgallery.com to upload your photos and create distribution lists to share your photos. They also have software called Ofoto that you can use to upload your photos as well. It's great because family members can then order prints from the site.
